PrivateList is updated several times each week, with new
listings, changes to existing listings and new resources that we’ve
either created or found elsewhere on the web. We’re constantly trying
to find new ways of making your real estate endeavours quicker, easier and
more rewarding, so visit us often.
There are three simple approaches you can take to enhance your access
to PrivateList - and other - real estate resources: bookmark
us, make us your homepage, and build your own on-line library.
Bookmark Us
Rather than having to re-type www.privatelist.com every time you
want to visit us, just create a bookmark:
- If you use Netscape Navigator, simply press Ctrl + D while
you’re displaying our homepage. Press Ctrl + B to display the
Bookmarks window, then move our entry from the New Bookmarks folder to
another of your choice.
Press Alt + F4 to close Bookmarks and return
to PrivateList, or use Alt + Tab to return but
leave Bookmarks open.
- If you use Internet Explorer, pressing Alt + A, then
A while at our homepage will take you to a dialog box
containing our URL; Alt + C then takes you to a file
manager-type window where you choose the directory in which you wish
to save it.
- From now on, to quickly access PrivateList, press
Ctrl + B to display your bookmarks and double-click our entry.
Homepage Us
If you’re really serious about making repeated use of
PrivateList (you’ve got two weeks to find a place on
the other side of the country!), you can temporarily make us your
browser’s home page:
- In Netscape, go to Options/General Preferences,
choose the Appearance tab, and enter
http://www.privatelist.com where it says Browser starts
with.
- With Internet Explorer, do the same thing by going to
View/Options and choosing the Navigation tab.
- Now each time you open your browser, the PrivateList
homepage will load, ready for action. Later, you can restore
your original home page or choose another.
Create Your Own Real-Estate
Library
In putting together PrivateList, we accumulated hundreds of links
relating not only to the site’s contents but also to design,
graphics, marketing, and so on. It soon became necessary to
organize these links into categories so we could quickly
retrieve information on specific topics. You can do the same
for the links you’re interested in.
In the bookmarks window of your browser, you can create folders and
sub-folders just as you would in the Windows file manager. If
you’re looking for a property to buy, for example, you might set
up a directory structure like this:
home search
properties
FSBO services
realtor sites
candidate properties
finance
mortgage tips
glossaries
calculators
rates
banks
negotiating
legalities
tips
lawyers
glossaries
moving
tips
movers
The trick is now to make the homesearch folder the directory
that displays whenever you choose the Bookmarks menu item
at the top of your browser window. To do that for Netscape,
select the homesearch folder by clicking on it (you’re still
in the bookmarks window, right?), then choose Item/Set to
Bookmark Menu Folder. And that’s it!
Continue to bookmark any interesting sites you find, as
described above. Then, from anywhere on the Internet, simply
choose Bookmarks from the menu at the top of the screen
to display a drop-down clickable list of all your home-search
links. (NOTE: this works best with Netscape Navigator: Internet
Explorer is less useful here, in that you cannot select
a particular folder to display when you choose Bookmark
- it displays them all.)
